I just wanted to thank you for sharing your enthusiasm, thoughts and ideas with our classes (2TD and 2/3C) on Monday. Our students have been very keen to write their stories thanks to your input. We are now in the process of creating our own class publications complete with illustrations, hopefully by the end of term. Thanks again for your time, you have boosted the students’ motivation in an area where they needed it most.

Any chance you are reading this - go to the www.qwc.asn.au (Queensland Writers Centre) and see if you can find the recorded presentations. Incredible speakers gathered for a day of conversation and lecture regarding the future of the book. We are certainly amidst very interesting and exciting times.

Eidsvold State School - The first test site for Child Writes without me!
What an amazing place. Two dedicated teachers are working with their classes (for the primary school it is a composite class Years 3,4,5,6 - get your head around that!) through the Child Writes programme. I am editing by remote. As the children finish each draft of their story - I get my hands on it and help scrub!
If anyone knows of any VIP who would love a trip to Eidsvold to keep the momentum going and to create a buzz - please let me know.

Every Wednesday afternoon .... March, 2011 - Pyjama Foundation reader.
Quess what .... Three years ago, I read to a litle girl as part of the Pyjama Foundation. She moved homes (actually, she moved three times, making her resume of the world seven homes before she was five. I lost touch with her as she moved to another city. Well, she is back in Toowoomba and yes, I am back on deck. This dishy kid is now seven, remembers EVERYTHING and is a spectacular human being. It is a honour to be in her world!

February 2011 - Class has started ...
Toowoomba Prep School has 13 students this year participating in the full 28 week program. Term one underway - goal and aspiration is for all children to have a story by the end of the term.

Each Monday morning - Pyjama Foundation reader
The little boy is now four and is still divine.

Deep breath - Now for 2011

Guess what - I am not a columnist!

I was so lucky on Friday. Sacred Heart School invited me to listen to a presentation and workshop by Frané Lessac. It was inspiring to hear how Frane approaches her projects and the amount of research which is conducted before the illustrations even begin. She was impressed with the books the children wrote last year as part of the Child Writes program. She said she had never seen children produce finished work of this calibre! We were all very excited, especially the children who were involved with Child Writes in 2008!
Frané Lessac is an award-winning artist, author and illustrator of children's books, publishing over 30 books to date. (www.franelessac.com)

January 29, 2009 - At Mary Ryan’s …. Meeting with Deb Pacholke – she is writing a book about an echidna who has lost its quills
Dear Emma,
Thank you very much for meeting with me this morning. You are an inspiration. I can just see the children glowing with pride at seeing their book in print. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with me. And forgive me for not springing for the coffee. I feel really bad for not having offered. My thought patterns just aren't quick enough at the moment and I do blame it on the chemotherapy. ( Definetly "chemo brain"). Next time it's my shout.
Regards Deb

Author visit, Mater Dei Primary School (Teacher: Kathy Golightly)

Emma visited our school in the lead up to the recent Year 3/5/7 Testing. She spoke with vigour and passion about her journey of writing and publishing a book. The children thoroughly enjoyed the presentation, learning much about how to treat their audience when writing, how to plan a narrative and how to effectively use a storyboard. Emma sparked a real enthusiasm in the children for writing. What a glorious gift indeed!

Thanks, Emma.
